COVID-19 Vaccinations

Whilst we are delighted to start vaccinating our patients against COVID due to the approval of the Pfizer, Moderna and Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccines, please do not contact the surgery about booking your COVID-19 vaccination. We are extremely busy and will be in touch with everyone eligible for the vaccination in line with the government’s priority scheme. You do not get a choice of which vaccination you receive, but please inform us if you have ever had a severe allergic reaction which required hospitalisation.

We are currently vaccinating up to group 6, all those aged over 65, front line workers and those aged 16-64 with underlying health conditions which put them at high risk. We can also vaccinate informal carers. If you believe this category applies to you please email [email protected] with your details and information about your caring responsibilities.

The dates of our clinics depend on the delivery of vaccine stock, and our speed depends on the break down of population by JCVI category in North Leeds. We are working with six other GP surgeries in the North Leeds Primary Care Network (PCN) to deliver vaccination as efficiently as possible. The majority of our vaccination will be done at Alwoodley Medical Centre (LS17).

You may be invited for a vaccination at a mass vaccination hub by the central NHS system before being contacted by us. We would advise you to book a vaccination as soon as you are able however, if you would prefer a local centre, you can choose to wait until we get in touch. We cannot advise how long this will be after receiving an NHS letter. Due to differing timescales and deliveries, a letter does not guarantee that we as a local centre will have got to you yet!

Whilst waiting for your vaccination, please continue to practice social distancing measures with regular hand washing and wearing masks in all public spaces. All vaccines require two doses within 12 weeks to reach full efficacy. We will contact you about a second vaccination date when nearing this 12 week mark.

You can find more information about the priority list for vaccination on the government website, linked here. For more information on the vaccine itself, see here.

We are also looking for volunteers to help us ensure the smooth running of our vaccination programme. If you are low risk, over 18 and looking to help the NHS, please register your interest here.
